Good evening!
We are Evelyn, Rubén and Luis, and you are listening to the
podcast seventh episode belonging to the IES Mediterráneo
Podcast Project. In this week recording, we are going to
have a look at the Tropical Coast.
The
Tropical Coast is a region in the south of Spain. It borders
on Almería to the east and on the region of Axarquía to the
west. Along the Tropical Coast, we find the following towns
and cities such as Albondón, Albuñol, Almuñécar, Los
Gualchos, Ítrabo, Jete, Lentejí, Los Guajares, Lújar,
Castell de Ferro, Molvízar, Motril, Otívar, Polopos, Rubite,
Salobreña (Lobres and La Caleta), Sorvilán and Vélez
Benaudalla.
Now, Evelyn
will speak about Motril. Then, Rubén will speak about
Almuñécar.

Motril has an
area of 109 square kilometres. Its population is of 56,605
inhabitants. Therefore, its density is of 519.31
inhabitants/km2.
It bounds on
Vélez Benaudalla to the north, and to the south on the
Mediterranean Sea.
Its location
makes it be an industrial and commercial centre. Its port is
a commercial port and at the same time a port for fishing
and recreation.
Other towns
near Motril are Torrenueva, Carchuna, Calahonda, Puntalón,
la Gargantilla, los Tablones, and las Ventanillas.
The most
important celebration takes place on 15th August:
Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, patron saint of the city.
Now it’s time
for Rubén.
Hi. Almuñécar
is a big town in the heart of the Tropical Coast.
Its
important sights are the castle of San Miguel, the Roman
aqueduct, the ornithological park ’’Loro Sexy’’ and the
archaeological museum. Almúñecar turns to be the most
populated town on the Tropical Coast in summer. The popular
festivities take place on 19th March. Its patron
saint is San José. The celebrations take place by the
seashore.
Well, that was all. We hope you have found this information
interesting and you come here some day.
Thanks for
listening!
