Good evening! We are Gaby, Dani and Migue and you are listening to the podcast third episode belonging to the IES Mediterráneo Podcast Project. In this week recording, we are going to have a look at the so-called Peñón de Salobreña (the Rock) and our beaches.

Well, let's start with Salobreña’s Beaches:

Salobreña's beaches are large stretches of coastline and they have calm and crystal-clear waters. They also have the main necessary services, such as the Red Cross. If you want to see everything these beaches have, you will have to walk along the Paseo Marítimo. There are four main beaches:

- Playa del Caletón: Small cove isolated with good sea bottoms. It hasn’t the necessary coastguard services.

- Playa de la Guardia: Very large beach surrounded by crops. It has some coastguard services. It is separated from La Playa de la Charca by the Rock.

- Playa de la Charca o Salomar: Large and relatively broad beach, with good climatic conditions and good services. It has a seafront and lots of urbanizations and buildings associated with tourism.

- Playa de Salobreña o La Cagadilla: La playa de Salobreña, also known as La Cagadilla, is a long and narrow band of sand and gravel which continues in the municipal area of Motril.

As a second point, let's deal with the Paseo Marítimo (Seafront). The Paseo Marítimo of Salobreña is the most tourist area in the town. Here, there are the best beaches, urbanizations and restaurants. Its surroundings are an ideal place to walk along the Mediterranean Sea and observe beautiful sights of the Tropical Coast. There are many “chiringuitos” which have names such as Restaurante el Peñón, el Campano, la Charca or Bar Flores. At each extreme of the Paseo Marítimo there are the most famous Pubs of the city. Their names are Modjo, Pub Peroba and Sunem. In summer, there are many tourists walking along the Paseo because it is a very pleasant way to spend the time.

And last but not least, let's talk about the Peñón de Salobreña (The Rock). The Peñón is a huge rock placed right at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. Formerly, the Peñón was a small island joined to the land by a tombolo. Nearly into the same Peñón, there is a restaurant whose name is the same than that of the Rock. It is over twenty-three metres high. It is an important tourist place. People always go up there to relax themselves. People also go up because at the top of Peñón there’s a beautiful view of the whole beach. There are many legends about that place, people tell that the Peñón is connected to the castle, which was used by Arab warriors. Another legend tells that our Peñón is hollow, but now people think that this can’t be true. Many years ago, there was an archaeologist excavation and the arqueologits found vases and coins from ancient times.

Well, that was all. We hope you have found this information interesting and you want to visit our beaches. Come and see the Peñón too!

Thanks for listening!
